My work is to support you in transforming the mental and emotional tangle you feel into greater clarity, achieving peace, calm and confidence in yourself.

What is Gestalt therapy?

It’s a humanistic psychotherapy that aims to reveal our most authentic “way of being,” bringing awareness to our most “automatic” behaviours, thoughts and emotions. It’s an integral, holistic approach, since it sees the person as a whole made up of body, emotion and mind.

Core principles:

Here and now.

Unlike therapies that review the past or try to modify future behaviour, Gestalt focuses on how what’s happening shows up in the present, nurturing the relationship between therapist and client.

Awareness.

Within this relationship, clear moments of awareness emerge (non-verbal and emotional “language”) so the person can begin to integrate, in due time, how they’ve built their character and personality.

Responsibility.

People are encouraged to take personal responsibility for their actions, choices and experiences. The aim is to avoid projecting responsibility onto others and to take control of one’s own life.

Contact.

We observe how people make and break contact with their environment and others. This contact cycle includes the sensation phase, the figure phase (focus of attention) and the withdrawal phase. Understanding this cycle can help people grasp their relationship patterns and explore new ways of connecting.

Recognising what we feel, how it gets triggered and why, lets us understand who we are. What emerges from that is greater acceptance and the chance to take responsibility for who we want to be. In the end, it gives us a fuller map of ourselves that restores our emotional balance and improves our confidence and sense of security.

What are family constellations?

We’re all part of a family system with its own order, its debts and its untold stories. Constellations are a working tool —not magic, not a mystical promise— for looking at that web from the outside and putting back in place what was out of order.

Core principles:

Order.

Every family system has a natural order. When someone ends up out of place —through a secret, an early death, an abandonment— the system tries, without us deciding it, to restore balance, often at the expense of whoever comes after.

Belonging.

Every member of a family system has a right to a place, including those who were excluded or whom we’d rather not name. Denying that place doesn’t erase it — it just makes it invisible.

Invisible loyalties.

Sometimes we repeat fates, take on places that aren’t ours, or feel emotions that actually belong to another member of the system, out of a loyalty we never consciously chose.

Looking in order to reorder.

Bringing the system into view lets everyone recover their place. When that happens, something loosens — not because we’ve understood more, but because something has been reordered inside.

I work with constellations as a complement to my work as a Gestalt therapist, with respect and no magical promises: one more way of looking at what holds your patterns in place, this time from the family fabric you come from.

“We often carry fates that aren’t our own. Naming them is the first step to letting them go.”

How will we do this?

MIND

understanding

EMOTION

presence and permission

BODY

directed action

STEP 1

We’ll work to understand what’s happening to you: how what you’re suffering or what’s blocking you has a logical sense to it. In other words, what’s happening to you happens for a reason and makes sense. Understanding is the first step towards calm. That’s why this first stage relates to the MIND.

STEP 2

As we come to understand it, we’ll give space to what it causes, to the pain it causes, and to the difficulty it creates. This second stage involves EMOTION.

STEP 3

Once we’ve understood and allowed the emotion that was stuck, we then have more freedom and confidence to go after what we want. In this last stage, we work on directed action with the BODY.

How does a session work?

Sessions are held in person in Barcelona or online, one-on-one, and last about an hour.

We’ll start by loosening the beliefs and thoughts that limit you, so that, little by little, you learn to release the emotions that block you.

Over time, that feeling will shift from blocked and heavy to more open, light and flexible.

We’ll use different dynamics and techniques such as writing, body expression, meditations or visualisations, and other tools that will help us along the way.

When I see it’s useful, I’ll give you exercises to work on until our next session, and I’ll recommend books, films and more so you can go deeper in your process.

“When we can take in what hurts us, the heart opens up to others.”

The idea in therapy is for you to

Understand why you punish yourself and suffer so much.

Allow the pain that’s limiting you.

Recover your energy and direct it towards what you want.

How do I know if this is for me?

You often get frustrated because you can’t follow through on what you want or set out to do.
You fall into mental mazes and get tangled up in your own thoughts.
Doubt can end up paralysing you.
You feel guilty and punish yourself when you make mistakes.
You find it hard to commit in a relationship.
You feel embarrassed and nervous expressing how you feel in front of others.
You believe everyone else does everything right and you do everything wrong.
You suffer and worry about what others think of you.

Together in therapy:

You’ll learn to value yourself and know what you want and need.
You’ll manage to express your emotions without blaming yourself for it.
You’ll understand what weight from your past has you so blocked.
You’ll recover genuine confidence in yourself.
You’ll develop a genuine sense of responsibility for holding what you feel.
You’ll identify the beliefs that limit you and keep you from changing.
