Gestalt Therapy in Barcelona: What No One Tells You Until You Live It

Hombre mirando pensativo por la ventana, terapia Gestalt en Barcelona

If you’re looking for Gestalt therapy in Barcelona, there’s something I’d like you to know before booking your first session.

There’s a question almost no one asks before starting therapy.

It’s not “will it work?” We all ask that one.

The one we avoid is this: what am I going to have to look at?

When understanding isn’t enough

Most people who come to therapy already know quite a bit about themselves.

They know where their anxiety comes from. They recognize the pattern. They know the family history that explains why they react the way they do.

And yet, nothing changes.

There’s a huge distance between understanding something and actually feeling it differently. Between knowing you’re not responsible for what was done to you as a child and no longer carrying it in your body.

Gestalt therapy works in that gap.

What actually happens in a session?

There’s no homework to take home. No worksheets to fill out.

Sessions are conversations, yes. But of a particular kind. They move.

Sometimes I’ll stop on something you mentioned in passing that you’d already moved on from. Sometimes we’ll stay with a feeling long enough for something to actually shift, not just get named.

We work with what shows up in the present: what you feel in your body when you talk about something, not just what you think about it.

Gestalt understands you as a whole person. Not a collection of symptoms to manage.

The body knows what the mind doesn’t want to see

There’s something I learn again and again in session.

The head explains. The body shows.

You can tell me perfectly well why it’s hard for you to set boundaries. But if while you tell me your shoulders rise, your breathing catches, and your eyes drop to the floor… that’s where the unfinished business still is.

That’s what we work with. Not the story as told, but the story as lived.

Why I moved to Barcelona (and what I learned along the way)

At 32 I left Argentina convinced that changing countries would change how I felt.

It didn’t.

What I was carrying came with me, as it usually does. The loneliness. The feeling of not quite fitting in. The constant comparing. The question no one says out loud: am I in the right place?

It was Gestalt therapy that helped me understand what that weight was made of. And why I’d gone so long without letting it go.

That experience defines how I work. Not just as theoretical training, but as something I know from the inside.

I trained as a therapist at the Institut Gestalt in Barcelona, and today I bring that perspective into every Gestalt therapy session in Barcelona that I accompany.

Is Gestalt therapy in Barcelona for you?

It might be, if…

You recognize your patterns but can’t break them. You feel like you’re functioning, but something doesn’t quite fit. You’ve been in therapy before and felt like you talked a lot but changed little. You’re in a moment of transition: a move, a breakup, a job that no longer makes sense, a life that doesn’t look like what you imagined.

And it might not be for you if what you’re looking for is a quick tool to manage symptoms. There are excellent approaches for that, like cognitive behavioral therapy. They’re good. Just different.

Gestalt requires sitting with discomfort long enough to understand it. It’s not for everyone, and I’d rather say that clearly.

The first step is just a conversation

You don’t need to arrive with it all figured out.

Almost no one does. Most people just know something isn’t working. That’s enough to start.

Message me. No commitment, just to see where you’re at, what you’re looking for, and whether it makes sense to work together.
